Day 4 – Sunday, October 16, 2005
Today, Randy, Dr Rios and the other medical presenters are to return to Houston. By mistake, we received Randy's wake-up call at 6 AM so we got up and had an early breakfast. We waited at the hotel for Dr Rios' handsome nephew, Dr Pablo, to drive us to The Coronado Resort. The Coronado is an exclusive luxury resort located on the Pacific ocean. We were the guests of Dr Rios' foundation and were not allowed to spend any of our own money for anything.
Since it was raining, we pretty much relaxed, watched the Astros game, had a nice dinner and retired early.
Day 5 – Monday, October 17, 2005
After breakfast, we took the shuttle to the beach area which was closed to swimming for the day (someone thought it was because there were sharks in the area). We walked on the black sandy beach, sunbathed, and then returned to the pool at the resort.
Since our room looked out over the golf course, we naturally checked out golf fees, etc. but decided it wouldn't be nice to charge that to the foundation so we just lazed around for the day. Several of the TV stations were in English so we had something to watch.
Sounds boring, but it was very relaxing and we did enjoy it. Had a nice dinner and went to bed.
Day 6 – Tuesday, October 17, 2005
Had a nice breakfast, walked around the golf course and then packed up and got ready for our return to the Plaza Paitilla Hotel in Panama City. We were picked up at 1 PM by the same driver that had taken us to visit the farm and enjoyed the two hour scenic drive back to the city. We were already checked in at the hotel so we walked to a nearby shopping area and had the best pizza ever at one of the restaurants.
Panama City is about the size of San Antonio, 1,400,000 or so, with lots and lots of traffic. However, if you wanted to cross the street, the minute you stepped off the sidewalk, all the traffic would stop for you.
We returned to the hotel and read until bedtime.
