CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian College women's lacrosse team dropped a National Lacrosse Conference contest to the Jacksonville Dolphins at Old Bailey Stadium on Saturday afternoon, 24-9. PC moves to 4-11 overall and 2-4 in the NLC, while Jacksonville improves to 12-4 and 7-0 in league action. Kirstin Stenoien (Houston, Texas) scored four goals to lead the Blue Hose. Megan Schaaf (Ellicott City, Md.) scored the first of her career and Lauren Gulledge (Surfside Beach, S.C.) potted her first of the season.

Six different players scored for the Blue Hose on the day. Goalkeeper Susan England (Bethesda, Md.) took the loss but led the team in ground balls, with six. Three Blue Hose racked up three draw controls and Katie Prisco (West Babylon, N.Y.) led the team in caused turnovers, with three. Jacksonville’s Amanda Hurley led all scorers with six goals. Two opening Jacksonville goals put the Blue Hose in an early hole but Catherine Ellis (Charlotte, N.C) found the net to put PC on the scoreboard 8:08 after the opening whistle.

Stenoien converted a Lauren Lefeber (Waxhaw, N.C.) pass into PC’s second goal less than three minutes later to pull the Blue Hose back within one, 3-2. Stenoien scored her second of the game midway through the half after two Dolphins goals, thanks to a Shannon Hartford (Georgetown, Mass.) assist that made the score 5-3. Following two Jacksonville goals with 11:30 remaining, Prisco answered the score with a highlight reel-worthy play for a Blue Hose goal. Jackonville’s Kaylee Quint controlled the draw in the Dolphins end and looked downfield, only to see Prisco sprinting to pressure the green-clad defender. Prisco then checked the ball out of Quint’s stick, picked it up and streaked down the field before beating goalkeeper Karli Tobin to pull PC within three, 7-4.

With 3:19 remaining in the half, Stenoien completed her hat trick from a free position shot but Jacksonville would eventually take an 11-5 lead into the halftime break. The second half belonged primarily to the visitors but the Blue Hose did offer some milestone moments. Stenoien added her fourth of the game 1:41 into the frame, marking her 25th of the season and giving her the temporary team lead before Hartford netted the game’s final goal with 1:28 left in regulation for her 25th. Gulledge found the net from in close with 8:33 left on the clock for her first goal of the season and the second of the sophomore’s career. Another chance later nearly became her second of the day but the shot drifted wide. Before Hartford’s score to wrap the proceedings, Schaaf converted a chance for the newcomer’s first career goal.

The freshman also plays on the Blue Hose women’s basketball squad and offered a glimpse of her lacrosse prowess with the score. Unfortunately for the home side, Jacksonville’s 13 second half goals sealed the result as the Dolphins won, 24-9. The Blue Hose return for their regular season finale on Wednesday against Davidson. The opening draw at Old Bailey Stadium is slated for 4 p.m.
